Castor Church of England Primary School

Special Educational Needs

At Castor C of E School, our vision is to provide our children with an education that will empower them to become the best they can be.  All pupils will leave our school with a broad, blanched and inclusive education that allows them to thrive in the local communities and a deeper understand of the world they live in.

We support children with a range of special needs. These needs include children of high ability, as well as those experiencing difficulty with their learning, communication and interaction, social and emotional mental health, physical disabilities or a specific learning disability.

The majority of children with learning needs are helped in the classroom and are supported by individual programmes of work, where appropriate. Additionally, Teachers and Leaders identify resources that help SEND children thrive in their everyday lessons, like Little Wandle (phonics scheme). Some children are supported by Teaching Assistants (either individually or in groups), who work closely with the class teacher. Members of staff are able to draw on the advice and experience of colleagues, including the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator. Support and advice is also available from a range of outside agencies including speech and language therapist, support for learning, specialist teachers from the local authority, school nurse and Educational Psychologist.

In this section you will find out how we identify children with SEND and the provision that we put in place to help meet their needs.  We believe that every child has the right to achieve their full potential.  We aim to raise the aspirations of, and expectations for, all pupils with Special Educational Needs.
